About Bollington Carbon Revolution
The Bollington Carbon Revolution is a group of local active volunteers who believe that our town can be a part of the new carbon revolution, driven by the voluntary sector at the local level. We have come together with the over-arching aim of reducing Bollington's carbon footprint.
The Bollington Carbon Revolution (BCR), is a sub-group of the Bollington Civic Society Registered Charity No. 501544, located in the Northwest of England. We formed in September 2006 as a small group of local active volunteers who believe that our town can be a part of the new carbon revolution, and come from a wide variety of sectors including sustainability, teaching, engineering, finance, data protection and pharmaceuticals, bringing with us a wide range of skills.
We operate on an entirely voluntary basis. England’s Northwest lead the industrial revolution through innovation, resourcefulness and significant amounts of fossil fuel. It defined the shape of modern society, and as a very early cotton town Bollington played a key part in this. The Northwest region wants to be the first to find the solution and lead the world through another revolution, and we believe that a grass roots approach can help in this revolution. Ultimately we have come together with the overarching aim of reducing the town's carbon footprint, by thinking globally, acting locally.
We set out with the following objectives in mind and over the last 2 ½ years have made progress in all of these areas:
1. Educate and raise awareness within community to encourage a sustainable lifestyle
2. Establish Bollington’s carbon footprint and provide support to the community in reducing carbon emissions
3. Share and gain knowledge with other communities and influence decision makers
We are currently working with Leapfrog, who are a unique business-led not-for-profit organisation that channels pro bono (free) services from top businesses into activities that deliver carbon reductions.
