Turner's ecolodge

We are getting closer to acheiving the funding we need to commence the main work on our toilet block refurbishment project. When the project is complete the building will be available to hire as a venue for small meetings or training events, for businesses or community groups. We estimate that hire costs will be between £8 and £6 an hour. The venue will seat at least 10. The money generated will cover the running costs for the building.

We are interested to hear from anyone who may want to hire the ecolodge for meetings, training or other events. It will help us in our remaining funding bids if we have an inidication of demand for hire.

Please email us with an expression of interest (this isn't a firm commitment) stating how often and how long you would want to hire the building for.

January 2012

Our Solar Fayre event was a success, over 20 Bollington residents attended and many have now installed solar PV as a result of attending the event. Skygen, a local PV supplier who exhibited said this about the event:

“SkyGen would like to say a very big thank you to the ‘Bollington Carbon Revolution’ team who organised and publicised the Solar Fayre event back in January. The aim of the event was to spread awareness and promote the benefits of Solar PV. As a locally based renewable energy installation company, SkyGen was invited to attend along with two other installation companies, and we were given the opportunity to give a short presentation detailing the environmental and financial benefits of PV, followed by a Q & A session.

Most of the people who came along had some prior knowledge of Solar PV, but possibly not a full understanding of all the benefits, or the potential pitfalls for that matter. Many questions were asked, both technical and non technical and I’m sure that everyone took some useful info away with them. After the presentations were over, many people stuck around to speak in more detail to the three PV installation firms. SkyGen spoke with 8 or 9 home owners, of which 7 asked us to come and survey their property. All seven properties varied in shape and size but all had roof space free from shading which was suitable for a PV installation. After tailoring a system to the individual properties and presenting the expected system performances and the financials six of the seven homeowners decided to go ahead with a SkyGen installation. These PV systems ranged from 2kW – 4kW in size, but all will generate a significant amount of the electricity each home uses per year, reducing the need to rely on the grid. Over the next 25 years these six systems alone will equate to an estimated 170 tonnes less of harmful C02 emissions being pumped into the atmosphere."

We're planning another event in the Autumn. Email us if you want to be alerted about the next event. We'll also put details on Twitter.

The revolution starts here!

Help us reduce Bollington's carbon footprint

The Bollington Carbon Revolution is a small group of local active volunteers who believe that their town can be a part of the new carbon revolution, driven by the voluntary sector at a local level.

White NancyOur aim is simple. We have come together with the over-arching aim of reducing our town's carbon footprint.

Bollington, located in the Northwest of England, was at the heart of the industrial revolution, which brought about the increase in carbon emissions which are widely acclaimed to be responsible for climate change. We would like to be a part of the new carbon revolution which needs to happen at a similar rate of change, bringing about significant reductions in carbon emissions

Thinking of joining us? Find out more....projects for 2011 include eco refurbishing the old toliet block in Bollington, a hydropower project, solar coops and much more!

We were featured in this video, produced by Cheshire East Council in 2010 and in a book called Engaging the Public with Climate Change (published in 2010 by Taylor Francis)
